Gemini Summer of Code, GESOC, summer activities for non selected contributors that want to stay with us for real.

Disclaimer:
GESOC has no relationship with Google's Open Source office Google Summer of Code program.
Just a similar name, focusing on developing AI projects for the Liquid Galaxy project.

Introduction

GESOC, also called Gemini SoC or Gemini Summer of Code, is an internship program developed by the Liquid Galaxy community and focused on developing AI projects for the Liquid Galaxy project.

The idea behind the program is offer to non selected GSoC contributors the opportunity to continue next to our community developing the same project presented to GSoC official platform.

Projects will have to incorporate specifically Google-based AI products and services, like Gemini, Gemma or others.

Students applying will have no obligation at all, as this is not a paid internship, and the agenda will be in parallel to main GSoC activities.

The Liquid Galaxy project will offer a similar follow-up to GSoC contributors, but with fewer resources, due to availability.

Those will be:
- A community monthly review of their projects' advances
- A dedicated Discord channel
- Mentorship hours on availability
- A nice Liquid Galaxy project swag kit sent home, if the project is successful.
- Publicity of your collaboration on videos and posts, for your personal needs and promotion.

Also, as a big bonus, the real participation in this program will start to count for their Liquid Galaxy score for GSoC 2027*

* Remember that Liquid Galaxy project participation on GSoC 2027 is unknown as of summer 2026. As with all the other open-source projects, we'll apply next year again, and later we'll know if we're selected or not.

How it works

GESOC will run specific sessions where the contributors working on projects will present their progress and get feedback from mentors and colleagues.

Specific Q&A sessions will be also being held time to time, upon availability of the mentors.

Here mentor Sidharth, in charge of the program, next to mentor Dev, attending some GESOC contributors.

Information are always in the slides of GESOC first meet.

CAPACITY ACHIEVED, WE NO LONGER ACCEPT CONTRIBUTORS FOR THIS PROGRAM, as May 5th, 2026

The ones that already have been invited to the very first meet remember: 2 minutes presentation without slides of your proposal for GESOC, all cameras open.
After this we'll communicate by email the 5-10 accepted contributors in this side program
YES 10, due to the large amount of  inquiries we'll evaluate to have between 5 and 10 interns, upon quality of their proposal and soft skills.

Following the naming already used for our AI coding contest at the Liquid Galaxy project, we're launching a special initiative for contributors who have not been selected (sorry for that, you know all that GSoC is very competitive).

The deal is:
- The deal is only for contributors who presented a real (not spammy) proposal at Google's portal.
- Contributors will be able to develop a project, maybe the same presented in their proposal/s, or another one, always agreed with the LG project.
- Projects have to incorporate AI and Google products, not third-party, like Gemini and Gemma models.
- Will work the same days as a regular contributor, with less pressure, no obligation at all.
- Will have the opportunity to
. be guided by mentors with 3 Meets.
. present their projects on our YouTube and events (gaining personal visibility)
- If the project succeeds, as any other regular GSoC, you will receive a unique Liquid Galaxy and Google Developers swag pack, with stickers, pins, t-shirts...
- Doing this GESOC program successfully will help contributors a lot to be selected next year.
(But remember, we can never be sure about this for many reasons)

We will accept a maximum of 5 contributors on this GESOC program.
We'll held a special Meet to present your ideas, and with this we'll deliberate to the ones accepted.
CAPACITY ACHIEVED, WE NO LONGER ACCEPT CONTRIBUTORS FOR THIS PROGRAM

Calendar will be the same as regular GSoC, but only with one Meet for month, 2nd week of every month, June, July and August, and special calendar entries for everything else that will be announced.

We do reserve the right to not develop this action if the wanna be GESOC contributors are not ready or collaborative for real.
